Let’s face it. De La Soul is getting old, but that’s not a bad thing. On the under they could very well be the Rolling Stones of Hip Hop. De La Soul is the very last remnant of loose affiliation that was once known as the Native Tongues (youngsters, you need to google that shit).
And because of their longevity…De La is better than A Tribe Called Quest.
That’s right I said it!
Let that shit seep in.
Remember that song from Tribe’s first single off of Midnight Marauders, “Award Tour”? It was only dope because De La did the hook.
But never mind that now. I found this new shit off of ambrosiaforheads.com and off a Wu-Tang track! Real heads will know from where.
Here’s what Posdnuos had to say about the song:
“I’ve always loved the ‘Intro’ on Disc Two of Wu-Tang Forever – this erie sample with no beat, that they only talked over,” De La Soul’s Posdnuos tells Rolling Stone. “I stumbled on the original sample while crate digging one day, took it straight to the lab and added drums. The feel is definitely gritty, hard and sounds like a Wu record, so out of inspirational respect, we included featuring ‘The Spirit of the Wu’ in the song title.”
