OMFGOD=Yasin Bey (Mos Def) + Mannie Fresh

OMFGOD is a rather appropriate title of this collaborative upcoming album from Yasin Bey and Mannie Fresh. Back in the days of Rawkus and Cash Money, I was obviously a fan of one more than other, but I have to say from what I heard so far, this far exceeds expectations.

Ray Manzarek…Poor Dead Bastard

He broke on through.

One the last pillars of the Elven days of music has crossed the over the seas and will finally will get an answer to how Jim Morrison died.

Ray was awesome. I can only speak as a fan and spectator, since none of us knew the man, and that did claim to him I doubt ever really did.

I imagine a conversation between him Jim Morrison would go something like this…

DEEP WITHIN THE NETHERSPACE OF DEAD MUSICANS

Jim Morrison: Ray! Hey, man…Ray over here!

Ray Manzarek: Jim? My God is that really you? You haven’t aged a day.

Jim Morrison: That’s because I’m dead man, but look at you. You got all old.

Ray Manzarek: What happened to you in Paris, Jim?

Jim Morrison: Well, to be honest Ray, it wasn’t till I got here shortly after that I started figuring out that I don’t do so go by myself. And besides some bad chocolate I found in the trash, some Absinthe and few painted ladies…well, anyway have you met Ol’ Dirty Bastard?

Ray Manzarek: No Jim, I haven’t.

Jim Morrison: No worries, I’ll show you around. Did they really make a movie about us?

Here’s a video that’s sets up my little monologue.

And a music lesson!

The Beatles Record Smashed

Scottish singer Emeli Sande has smashed The Beatles record of 62 consecutive weeks in the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart top 10. Sande’s album Our Version of Events is holding steady on the charts for the 63rd week straight.

“It feels quite surreal to even have your name mentioned in the same sentence as The Beatles,” Sande said according to The Independent. “For a record to stay there for so long it means that people have connected with it so that’s how I’m enjoying celebrating this record.”

Nearly 50 years ago, The Beatles set the original record with 62 weeks in the top ten for their album Please Please Me.

“I’m so happy that so many people have connected with the stories and the songs on the record, this really is our version of events now,” the 26-year-old stated according to MTV. “I’d like to say thank you to everyone that has bought, played or shared my music in the last year, without your support this would never have been possible.”

This is the debut album for Sande and it has spawned three singles – “Read All About It,” “Next to Me,” and “Beneath Your Beautiful” – as well as numerous awards including the 2013 Brit Award for “Best Album of the Year” and “Best Female Solo Artist.”

What’s next for he intrepid musician? According to The Independent, the artist would like to make name for herself state side.

The Dark Game of Hobbit Thrones by Jason Yang

There are a trillion violinists on YouTube trying to rack up views and likes on the site, but few stick out in my mind like Jason Yang. The guy’s got talent, and it’s no surprise to me he keeps popping up in “you gotta listen to this” music videos.

Above he’s crafted a combination piece that uses music from The Dark Knight, Game of Thrones and The Hobbit. It’s a freaking fantastic piece of music, employing the best moments from all three tracks. All he had to do was clone himself 14 times.
